I'd be concerned that you get the inside the hull ice melted into water, some seeps into hairline cracks in joints or the fiberglass, then when it refreezes it makes problems. Unless you have a heated storage building to get it into, I'd wait.

Great suggestions. Have you been to Jackson harbor?[/quote] Jackson Harbor is a great harbor and like stepping back in time. I go there often in my power boat. But there are really no facilities there other than a hotdog stand and outhouse. The water get fairly skinny in many places and not sure abo...

if Door County, the best/only safe & free "offshore anchoring" would be on the north side of Peninsula State Park at Nicollet Bay and nearby Horseshoe Island (when NW wind). I captain power boat cruises by these spots and they are the only/most popular. Occasionally boats anchor in Bai...

good advice here, I just learned reefing on my "new" C22 this summer. I was advised by the local old salts not to make the lines from reef grommets along boom too tight as they are not meant to be tight for securing the sail above reef but are intended for holding the sail "flakes&quo...

mine is like the diagram. But not a cable from mast top (not sure why cable would be needed versus light line as boom isn't heavy and should be slack when mainsail in use.)

great work. I hope I'm wrong, but you may have a problem with your sonar transducer. I thought I'd read the hulls are a honeycomb rather than solid? Shoot through transducers have problems if it's not solid fiberglass. good luck

the shaft needs to be long enough to ensure the prop stays in the water in rough seas (when it may become critical). You are operating a displacement boat, not a powerboat on plane, so it'll pitch in heavy seas and the prop of a short shaft will come out of the water. And you want to be able to reac...

re water inside - look in the fuel locker (compartment at rear center of cockpit) Rain normally runs into this compartment. If there is a crack in the compartment floor, water will run into the cabin. Mine had a crack there and water was coming in. I sealed it with spray on truck bed liner. Previous...

I figured my 3x5 inch aluminum backing plates were hundreds times better than the quarter size washers installed by factory. The factory washers sufficed for 30 years with only minor cracking, so I think "bedding" would be major overkill. On my C22 none of the backing plates were on seams ...

I just used some 1/4 inch thick aluminum stock from the hardware store to make plates about 3" x 5". Cut the pieces with a hack saw, mark the holes and drill. Total cost about $10 & easy to do. No need for stainless (IMO)

If it's been siting outside with fittings removed it may be water logged in the wood between the inner/outer fiberglass from water penetration at the fitting screw holes. I'd place it in a garage in a position so the fitting holes that were exposed are lowest and see if gravity produces water drops ...

If it's not structural and not external visible try spray on truck bed liner in aerosol cans. I had a small non-structural crack in the fuel locker leaking water into the boat and used that to seal it.

looking at the pics I'd start to get concerned about structural integrity for reasons other than leakage. The fiberglass does more than keep water out.

ambitious undertaking. For your safety I'd like to see the braces from the horizontal beams to the vertical have closer to a 45 degree angle. The current angle seems a little too upright to prevent side movement that could lead to a dangerous collapse. I'm going by timber frame house structures I've...

boom topping lift question

Yesterday was the 1st day sailing my C22 which I purchased last fall. Also 1st time sailing anything other than sunfish/Hobies. Things went well except the "boom topping lift" interferes with the top of the main sail. After a little GOOGLE research it seems I should not have this tight whe...
