Re: potable water tank

John, I Don’t think your water tank is original. Any tank should have some kind of inspection port and I would expect some kind of drain. You may have to remove the tank to find what you are looking for. You can try putting in a small amount of Clorox bleach then drain the tank. I used to manage a p...

Re: Launching from a crane

I have never launched a boat with a crane but there are lots of c22 and c26 that have been if you search the forum . If the crane is rigged correctly there should be no problem.

Re: Mast Step Trouble

For the broken out peg hole the easy fix is to buy some light gage stainless steel about 2” wide and rivet it in place around the mast, then just drill a hole for the peg . All the peg does is keep the pole sitting on the mast. All the pressure will be straight down if you rig it correctly. The fix ...

Re: rudder shaft leak into bilge

Hi, I Don’t ck the subject posts very often but if I understand your question the leak is from the sleeve in the Lazare that the rudder shaft runs through. If you look in the documents section there should be a rubber hose with clamps top and bottom. If the clamps are leaking you should be able to re...

Happy New Year I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable New Year this coming sailing season. I have a C26 that I keep in Sequim WA and sail on the Puget Sound but have yet to get to the islands, hopefully that will happen this year . I live in CO and get to my cabin in Sequim when responsibilities p...

Looks good! What size tarp are you using ? I’ve shrink wrapped in the past but the material is exspensive and it’s hard to do well without the proper heat gun.

Re: First Post.. Should I buy?

I have several sailboats in varying lengths. Your personal proclivities to require all the “right “ gear will substantially influence how much your free boat costs. For casual use on fair weather days a lot of cost can be defrayed if one is willing to invest sweat equity use hardware store rope for ...

Re: rudder shaft leak into bilge

Many of the c26 rudder installations have been modified over the years. If the installation is original there is a rubber hose attached to a neck stubbed out of the hull where a hose is clamped going to another similar stub off the bottom of the deck. The hose is sometimes replaced with radiator hos...

If you take the mast off store it and all the rigging in a safe place so that you will still be able to sell the boat complete at a later date. Using the boat without the mast and rigging will be perfectly safe.

Re: C-22 keel removal how much clearance is needed

I,m surprised no one has tried to answer your question yet. I tried earlier but was out of the county and for some reason my post would not log on. To figure out how much clearance you need measure the amount of keel exposed beneath the hull then measure the trunk height inside. Add about 8” for cle...

Re: C26 Mast raising pics

Just a note, you say you have to work the roller reef as you raise the mast. I use 1/8 cable bridals ,ratchet straps on a piece of dedicated thick wall electrical conduit with eye bolts (heavy duty) , this way I never take the mainsail off the boom. Instead of the jib halyard I use the forestry to p...

Re: Raising the swing keel

Welcome to the forum! The 26 is a great boat you should really enjoy. As far as raising the keel goes it doesn’t sound like you have the original winch. The stock winch turns clockwise to raise the keel and rotates fully 360 degrees . I don’t remember how many turns but unless the cable is severely ...

Hi Gerald, I’m glad to hear you got to sail your boat. I’ve been a boat mechanic at a marina in Co for a number of years where the docks were set on floats ( commercially produced for the purpose ) . Once foam becomes water logged it generally never dries out. I had blocks of water logged foam that ...

You’re right that there is no really good way to run with the motor down in really shallow water. Typically you will avoid those situations as much as possible. There are two solutions if you know that you are going to be facing that on a regular basis. The best solution is to fabricate a shallow wa...
