Remember too that even with the keel removed it will still weigh in at around 2000 lbs, this is not a sunfish you can just turn sideways and toss it in

I am sure there is/was at least one fixed keel trailered boat on this forum.

Here is one http://www.chryslersailors.com/discussi ... ile&u=1232

Perhaps you can PM this member and ask how his is manufactured.

I am guessing here but, unless it is the mysterious fin keel version you probably can not remove the keel. If it is a fin type keel you may be able to unbolt it from the inside and remove it but even then it would probably be more work than it is worth. I would say finding a trailer and modifying it...

I use that same anchor as my main anchor and find it just makes the grade with a good current waves and winds blowing fairly strong, even in perfect bottom conditions for this type of anchor. I think you will find yourself using a lot more rode and chain, or dropping a second anchor, to make up for ...

Well right off the bat I would say it probably is not large enough to be your main anchor.................second I would buy a 3/8 to 1/2 " rode already setup and how ever much chain you need to go with it along with the appropriate shackle and use this one when I need a secondary anchor. There...

I can confirm there is foam under the V-birth, I removed some to add ballast forward to offset the hunk of metal hanging off the transom :) Mine was high and dry in this location.

Welcome aboard,

The foam isn't for support so removing it shouldn't cause any structural problems. It was intended as flotation to prevent the boat from sinking if it filled with water. Of coarse if it becomes water logged this defeats the purpose.

No, I split the two axles on the original single axle center line location. Boat however remains in the the same location as designated on the drawing. I gave some pretty detailed measurements that you should, I think, be able to get the distance you need. LeatherneckPA used this drawing to help set...

Welcome aboard,

It sounds like the inner liner is what is damaged and it is "seperate" from the outer hull. Someone may have dropped something on it from the inside but once you get it out of the water you'll be able to check the outer hull for any possible problem better.

You can look at your jib to see if your location is correct. If the top of the sail flutters or appears loose move the block forward and if the bottom seems loose move it back. Having telltales on the jib make this a lot easier. Also I tend to move mine back just a notch or two with my storm jib whe...

Your post reminded me of a little cover I made to keep the sun off while anchored. I just used a 5x7 tarp some pvc that can be broken down and stored away when not in use. It seemed to work well on that windy day while we watched the airshow from our boat at anchor. I forgot my bungee chords that da...

As a rule the fixed keel will be better in heavy weather and upwind while the swing keel will be better down wind and light air because it can reduce wet surface area by raising the keel. Be fun to test it out in the real world.

It has worked out fine so far. I have to remember to let it off when putting the mast up or taking it down but that is a help more than a hindrance and it makes tightening the rig up when the winds pick up a lot easier. It has also boosted my confidence in swageless fittings

I put mine just below the shelf in the inner lining near the cockpit door just before the inner lining turns back flush with the outer hull. Some of the wiring already runs through this area and for me at least it is still just in reach while not taking up any usable storage area. I'll have to take ...

I keep looking at that picture and I know for a fact the boat was at about 3 or 4 knots when it was taken, but for life of me I can't see any wake left behind. That's sign of a well designed hull below the water line.

The fittings is where they make their money. My split backstay was on the verge of failing as well so I replaced just that part with an adjustable split stay using some cable from another boat, I had the sense to hold on too, using non a swag fitting on the one end that needed one. You can see what ...
