Re: Frozen in place swing keel!

Might be clogged up with barnacles. I have seen this fixed by taking a hand saw and cutting in the space between the keel and the side of the trunk.

Re: Easiest cockpit floor fix?

I removed the fuzzy liner and the next layer was plywood with a streak rotten from one portlight to the other. Removing the rotten plywood was not a problem. I had to use a saw to score the good plywood in two directions cutting it into 2 inch blocks. Then I used a hammer and chisel to pop them off ...

Re: C26 anatomy

I stuck a camera as far forward under the liner as I could. From what I have seen the whole keel stub forward is full of lead ballast. There is not much of a bilge there and not much of a path for water to move back to the bilge. I put a small round drain under the steps so water from a keel cable l...

Re: C26 lifting frames and keel drop pics (added more pics)

I raised my 26 keel trunk 30 inches off the gound. That was plenty of clearance.
When the keel pin shoes were removed that allowed another 3 or 4 inches of clearance for the tall part of the keel.

Re: C26 - rebedding toe rails

When you unscrew the toe rail it will straighten out some. You have to work your way along pressing it back into place as you fasten it back down. Putting a sealant directly under the toe rail might get messy. The deck fits on like a shoe box lid and the trick might be getting the sealant up under t...

Re: Can I remove the walls or are they ceiling & mast support

The walls may add some support for the mast but probably not much. i believe if you look carefully the mast step is really slightly forward of the 3x3 post in in the corner of the head. The aluminum angles holding the chain plates are screwed to the walls that may add a little support there. On my p...

Re: First Post.. Should I buy?

If the boat has been sitting with 8 inches of fresh water in it there may be problems with rotten cabin sole. cushions, sails etc.. You may also need to cover the cost of a trailer for the boat. Tires and brakes for an old trailer can also be expensive. I would suggest you should look for a boat in ...

Re: Cockpit floor construction on C26?

The cockpit floor is fiberglass with plywood under that. No inner layer of fiberglass just the fuzzy stuff. Mine was rotten where the port lights leaked. This created a rotten plywood strip all the way across the bottom and up the sides to the portlights. Easy to remove the rotten section the rest t...

It is interesting that your motor mount seems to have an added section that moves it a couple of inches back from the transom. Looks like this gives you some extra clearance. Mine is just screwed directly to the fiberglass transom.

You probably want to leave the battery on if it powers your bilge pump. I changed my running light bulbs to LED bulbs and it makes a great difference for night sailing. In the past I have had a 5W fence charger solar panel and a 30 amp hour gel cell wheel chair battery. This ran the lights maybe onc...

You can place the transducer in a zip lock bag of water and move it around to see how different areas work before you epoxy it in place.

Also remember the signals spread out in a cone as they leave the transducer so you have to be far enough away from the keel to avoid interference.

Actually it is difficult to steer a long steel extension. You are as likely to bend the extension as turn the trailer. Gravity usually takes care of everything if you get it set up straight on the ramp. For a muddy ramp I sometimes time one rope to the trailer tongue and one on the rear and let a he...
