Last summer we saw a C 22 heading east from Port Washington. It was also blue with a family with youngish ( tweens) on board. The one we made contact with on Saturday was captained by a 40-50'sh man with what sounded like an eastern european accent and a blond very tanned woaman about the same age. ...

Hailing the C22 in Western LI Sound Saturday Afternoon

If the owners of the 1988 C 22 with the dark blue hull, Sail No: 1556??? are registered here we'd love to make contact. Sorry I didn't catch the name of your boat when we passed by today. You've got a beautiful boat!

NYC, Experienced some of that real weather on Saturday in Western LI Sound. blowing a steady 20+ with signifcant gusts up to 26-27. We dropped the jib and tried to sail in on the main alone. it wa fine but we were battling the wind and the tide so we motor sailed. We have a long shaft and it was fin...

Some water is to be expected. If it fills to a point and stops it sounds like the pressure from the water inside has equialized with the incoming water source. You probably need to check all the thru hull areas for leaks. We had a problem once where the keel cable snapped and banged hard against the...

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty good at sweating a line , so I don't think that's the issue. Im more certain now that it has to do with the fact that the gooseneck is bolted to the mast. Can anyone think of a reason to do this, or any problem in undoing it? PS ...had the most amazing sail on Satu...

We have issues with the main sail shape. The foot of the sail always has several wrinkles in the forward corner close to the mast, as if the sail is not raised all the way and the top and the sail shape stinks. Our boom is rivited to the mast, isn't it supposed to ride free in the track? Has anyone ...

Glad you made it back in one peice. Before our second sail this season we got to the boat and found the inner shrouds flapping, looks like we forgot to tighten down the jam nuts on the shrouds when we stepped the mast the week before, and they worked loose over the week.

Sailed in the Western LI Sound Sunday afternoon. Very little traffic, usually at 5:00PM there is a steady line of power boats running both east and west. We were out for a brief shake down sail and in 90 minutes saw maybe 6 power boats and same number of sail boats. The mooring field is about 30% li...

On line at West Marine on Saturday the guy in front of me was complaining how it cost $500 to fill his 38 foot power boat. I just had to mention how we spent $10.00 on gas for the ENTIRE season last year :-)

Splash day was a great success. We travelled about an hour from the storage site to launch site. The mast went up with a minimun of problems. We still have a slight issue with the mast swinging as we got it about 3/4's of the way up, even with using the rasing bridle system. Took about 2 hours to ge...

We replaced the clam cleat on our C-22 with a cam cleat. I like the swivel idea though! We can usually release the sheet from the opposite side of the boat. My husband single hands alot so he found it works fine. But them again Im not with him so I'll never know how many times he came close to being...

When we pulled the boat last fall there were enough mussells growing on the bottom to make boulibase for an army! The stench was horriffic when they started to die and fall off. Our driveway was a very popular place for the local seagulls

Rubber grommet.... a fabulous idea! Wish we had thought of that.. but hubby loves to haul out the pwer tools.

As for lowering the mast in the sling... sounds scary to me... but Im very risk intolerant. Not sure the guys who own the lift would let you do it.

What kind of a cleat do you have aft of the winch? Ours came with clam cleats which were worn and the sheet popped out very easily. We replaced them with Harken Jam cleats which work well. My husband single hands often and has never had a problem.

We fashioned the pin from a 5/8's stainless bolt which we cut the hex end off. Something we learned the hard way.. drill a hole in one end and run a long cotter pin through because the pin has the habit of falling into the boom if you are not careful. The sound of that thing rolling around inside th...

Just sent you a PM, but saw you post and wanted to reply. The mast is lowered aft over the stern rail. The mast step has a finger which latches into the base of the mast. Biggest issue with trying to raise or lower is the side to side swing of the mast. We (read my husband) snapped two mast fingers ...
