CONGRATS.. I would have loved to come by and help/learn/watch/film....I have yet to do this and would love not to pay my boatyard $250 for doing what I think gravity will do for free! Well you would have witnesses my hubby going for a swim. Although the unstepping went well, we hit snag with gettin...

A sucessful mast unstepping

Just want to say thanks to all for the great tips, although we have stepped and unstepped the mast about 6 times , today was by far the easiest. I reviewed Capt Scott's detailed outline and picked up two tips that made it much easier. One very simple, turn the boom on the flat rather than the end (t...

Its a topping lift, I would just replace it. We used 1/4 inch running rigging that runs through a small pulley at the mast head. We make it off to one of the bits on the mast. The foot of the main stops well forward of the aft end of the mast so it does not interfer. We tie one end off to a ssmall s...

We were out on Saturday. Winds were surprsing light for October but it made for a nice lesurly afternoon. Hubby even took a nap! I also appreciate the absence of the power boats which are a real problem where we sail. I'll never undersatnd why they always choose to cross our bow, often bringing us t...

I'd be interested in his response. We are Ebay fans... that's how we got our 22, and are very happy with the outcome.

I saw the listing last weekend. My hubby said the exact same thing about the engine :-) I shot him a look, no honey we are not buying a boat so you can have an engine. We barely have room for the one we own now.

Thanks Captian Scott. The lawyer in me approves of all your disclaimers! Do this at your own risk. As I suspected the hinged mast base is more conducive to single handed mast raising. I would be interested in your experiences and insight with your unnamed boat. I'm a " better safe than sorry&qu...

Don't feel bad we lost two pins, both into the boom, which required drilling out the riveits because the rattling was making me insane. We slow learners drilled a hole through the pin (also a 5/8's bolt with the head and thread end cut off) and stick a big cotter pin through it to prevent it from fa...

I think part of the problem is that the tabernalce is not hinged and the mast tends to rotate on us. We don't trailer the boat, but once at the begining and once at the end of the season. I think we need to look into a better way to hold the mast level before rasing. We no longer have the stern rail...

We own your new boat's twin. They clean up pretty good with an application of elbow grease. I would love to hear your tips for single handed mast raising. We also scoped out all the advice on the websites but have always had a problem with the mast swinging and twisting on the way up. We've done it ...

After the first season we replaced the OEm cleat with an 8-9 inch stainless cleat . We too were concerned that the oem cleat was not wide enough and that the bridles might pop off. the new one is large enough to pass the mooring line through the center and around the horns, so we can overlap and loc...

Good lessons. I will have to check the stern cleats to see what if anything backs them. The shrouds are backed with wood blocks and the single bow cleat has an aluminum brace backing it. A single bow cleat makes me nervous, I would prefer a redundant system in case one gives but there is no real way...

We could easily turn this into ramp horro stories thread. We launch and retrive only once a year. At the end of last season some iditot left his car with a small ( jet ski) trailer partially blocking the ramp. We waited as long as we could given the fact that we have to pull the boat at high tide,th...

EE, do you folks at your club keep the boats on trailers all season or did you just pull them all because of the storm?

Yikes, the boat doesn't sink but a tree falls on it... now that's some bad luck!

Hanna turned out to be a non event here in the NYC area. Maybe NYSAILOR had a different experience further out east which took a more direct hit. We had some rain and just a little wind. Haven't been out to look at the boat yet, but heck, we have sailed her in higher winds than blew through yesterda...

Thanks for all the advice. Pulling the boat not feasible due to the tide table. We need high tide and we just aren't going to get one when it would be possible to pull the boat. So we went out there tonight and stripped it bare to reduce all windage. Pulled off the sails, boom and motor. We are down...

I've been looking at the tracks and it looks like we might also get some weather from this system. I'm a worrier by nature. I see what you mean about reinforcing the transom, with the rudder hanging off the stern and the traveler attached directly to the transom its probably more force than it was designed to withstand.

Sounds like maybe its more trouble than its worth. I'll just have to be more careful about my shins!

Thanks for the replies. We would like to get more room in the cockpit. The tiller position makes it very difficult to move around, even when its just the two of us. My shins are always all banged up!

Another rudder question

Does anyone have any experience with moving the rudder position on the C-22 so it hangs from the stern?
