Howdy neighbor! I'm down in Olympia, so we head out to Ocean Shores or Long Beach for kite flying. In fact, this weekend is the Grays Harbor Festival of Colors at Ocean Shores. Lots of BIG kites. I like wind, so in addition to sailing, I fly a bunch of kites here on the Washington coast. Big kites, dual line stunt kites, and lots of other fun stuff.

I know this is an old question, but I had the same problem on the new ('76? '77?) Pirateer we just got, and had a different solution. I unscrewed the wood topping on the trunk, cut a piece of mountain bike inner tube to fit, slapped it on top and screwed the wood topping back on - through the inner ...
