Re: Winter in Slip

Update: Seven months "wet" and Lady Anne is still doing great. We had record low temps last month, resulting in ice forming on the lake including the slips where she's berthed. Had to go down one or two times and break the ice (about 1/4" to 1" thick), and one of the spring lines...

Re: Anchoring Techniques/Advice?

Scott-makes great sense. My "running plan" is to arrive well ahead of the local power fleet and have my pick of spots.

As regards safety...I'm solidly in the "better safe than sorry" camp :)

Since it's too cold today to do much on the boat...thought I'd share some pics from my "other" hobby.

Re: Anchoring Techniques/Advice?

Scott, Perfect advice...exactly the details I was looking for. I learned a long time ago never to be offended by a wiser person's advice. I'll (sheepishly) admit that I assumed a 7:1 scope (nearly 90+ feet in my case) seemed a bit high for Kingston (maybe three hundred yards wide?)...but that's why ...

Re: OEM Standing Rigging ?

Thank you gents!

I was wondering about those aft stays...certainly doesn't look all that strong from the outside; to learn all that's INSIDE is plastic...YIKES!

The info on Seco is spot on; what would you say their turn-around time (from receipt of the old) was?

Anchoring Techniques/Advice?

So while winter bears down on us and S/V Lady Anne floats sleepily in her berth...I'm planning the "big trip" of the summer. The plan is to take her up-river to the Kingston side of Watts Bar for the 4th of July fireworks off Fort Southwest Point. The trip is about twenty-five miles, force...

Re: Winter in Slip

So, here's an update on the "ongoing experiment": We had single digit temps at night (including wind chill) for about the last four calendar days, without getting above freezing for about half of those days-my outside faucets at the house froze up over the weekend (though I've luckily got ...

Re: New Year's Day Ordeal

My rudder is a complete DIY replacement, made of heavy hardwood coated with resin/enamel. I installed two high density plastic "cheek pieces" inside the rudder assembly that gives it "positive friction", and an eye on the trailing edge that I can hook into with my boat hook to ra...

Re: Winter in Slip

Good advice; will do.

My number one worry is the rudder post tube and the keel winch cable tube...anyone have any experience on how often/under what conditions these have froze/burst? I've always heard that if the water under the boat is still liquid, these stay free as well...but....

Re: Winter in Slip

Thanks Scott! Went down yesterday and found that one of my fenders was rubbing the paint pretty well...just flipped her around to the other side to and loosened the spring lines a bit. I'm seeing a pretty nice "beard" growing on the side facing dominant sun...but it was pretty easy to scru...

Winter in Slip

So as the "Noob" on the forum, I'm looking for any experienced advice as I continue to winter S/V Lady Anne on Watts Bar Lake. Here's the current status: Boat is docked on finger pier in about six feet of stable depth (TVA's already lowered the levels and Marina reports my side of the slip...

OEM Standing Rigging ?

One of the next projects I'm considering is the standing rigging on Lady Anne. During the initial re-fit, I inspected the OEM rig and naively rated it "good enough" to save the time/cost/hassle of replacement at that point. Four months "wet" on, I'm now taking a longer, more educ...

Re: My take on swing keel repair

Lessons Learned-Handling

So, when I first obtained Lady Anne, I went around looking for any advice from 'Old Salts' regarding what to expect from her in ways of handling. At that point, I had significant power vessel experience and some sailing time in smaller, racing boats...but hadn't crewed anything larger than a 15' sai...

The right power

So one of the topics I had lots of question on when I started researching outboards for S/V Lady Anne was which OB to select. She came with a mid-1990s Nissan 6 hp two-cycle which (despite what PO stated) refused to start. After taking down the block, I found lots of burned sand in the cooling void ...

My take on swing keel repair

Hello, Having just joined the forum, I thought I'd add in a few posts on my restoration of S/V Lady Anne; particularly the swing keel repair. To begin...When I obtained her, un-named and gnarly, the swing keel brackets were rusted severely...looked OEM and exposed to saltwater long term (boat histor...
