Rivet size question

Hello, I am going to remove the cap at the clue end of the boom of a C26. There are 4 rivets. Does anyone know what size rivets these are. I would like to know so (a) I use the right size drill bit to remove them, and (b) to have the right size rivets on hand to put it all back together quickly. I p...

Re: How to measure a bimini for backstays

Ok, I'm not sure if even 3/4ths would have been large enough. Since the ends of the back stays are two prong, they don't fit down the middle. In any event, I think I measured where the holes in the bimini go correctly, but the backstays ends didn't fit through the grommets, so I had to remove the gr...

Re: How to measure a bimini for backstays

Well, I had 5/8" grommets put in (I wanted larger but that was all I could get from a local boat builder - they said that any larger requires a machine that would press them together). I also had them put in some common sense latches (like you would see on a ladies pocket book where the tab sli...

Emergency Exit, do you remember what size grommets the back stay ends needed to fit through?

Re: Mast raising

Realizing this is an older post, but also realizing new people may read it... My gin pole always pulls away from the mast when the mast is most of the way up. Since I use a bridal, side swing is not an issue. It is also not a concern about pulling the mast the rest of the way up, as the gin pole ser...

Re: How to measure a bimini for backstays

Sounds like a good method.... of course, as you said it didn't end up being right the first time till you did the slits. I guess I will see. Right now I still have about a week or so before the bimini arrives and I get to start playing.

Re: How to measure a bimini for backstays

Thanks EE, I'd love to see your diagram (yes your link was broken - I can't understand why... You only posted it 6 to 10 years ago.) :D Your comment about using the toe rails to mount your bimini was very helpful though! My thinking has evolved since my first posting. I am thinking that I can assemb...

How to measure a bimini for backstays

I ordered a new bimini for my Chrysler 26 today. Once it gets here, I am going to need to figure out how to accurately measure where to put two holes in the fabric for the backstays (I'll use some sort of grommets). I just am a little stumped at this point how to make an accurate measurement before ...

Re: Where should I mount my new MFD (Chartplotter)?

Hi all, I liked the ideas presented. In the end, I mounted it on the table in the cabin (which I can see from the cockpit). I also bought an extension for the cables and put a second mounting disk in the front of the cockpit. So when I want to have the MFD up close, I can. It means a cable running t...

Where should I mount my new MFD (Chartplotter)?

Hi all,
I have a '77 Chrysler 26 and a new Garmin 74cv Chartplotter. I am trying to figure out where to mount it. I've never had one before. For those of you with something similar, where did you mount it?

Thank you.

Gas tank question

I am new to my boat (Relentless) and am still setting it up (1979 Chrysler 26, swing keel). I need a gas tank for the outboard. I am wondering what other people have including sizes (# of gallons, and if possible, dimensions) and where you have it located. Right now my battery is in the portside laz...

I looked up Silkaflex and there seems to be two different products, 291 (Marine Adhesive/Sealant), and 221 (One-Component Adhesive Sealant), as well as a UV sealant (#295). Which one do you use for this sort of sealing?

Thanks again.

Sealing the bearings

First, I am not familiar with Silkaflex sealant - I will need to research it. Second, the top and bottom bearings, should they be fixed such that only the pipe can turn inside it, or should the outside of the bearings be free to move as well? I had not thought of sealing the outside of the bearings....

OK, I finally got it apart. In order to get it apart, I used a gear puller (two ton pressure) and rigged something on top to cover the hole that would go through the ring. Once I did that it went smoothly. I have no idea how much pressure it actually took, but on my first attempt it busted through t...

There was only one long screw in each of the two holes. I know I got them out because I had the collar able to turn freely at one level. Then with a few light sideways taps the rod dropped about a half inch. It is very snug again. I hadn't considered short set screws, but these screws were long - yo...

Captain Bondo, Interesting about the top pipe being heaver than normal stock. I got it to move a bit using a pipe wrench, and then I tapped it with a hammer and it dropped a half inch. Now it barely turns again. So, I have now ordered a gear puller to see if that will pull the ring off the top. That...

I used a 20' strap for my C-26 and it is just long enough for the ramp here. My tires were about 2 feet from the water. A steeper ramp it would be way more than enough. In the end, I put a wheel on the front of the trailer and went with a strap to put the boat in and out of the water. It worked well. It also weighed a lot less than a metal extension. Putting chocks behind the wheels of the trailer was quite secure to release the truck from the trailer. Before relea...

I am using a pin that is only about 3" long. I put on a rubber O-ring that fits on it snugly so that it doesn't accidentally fall into the boom. I wonder if the longer pin prevents it from falling out when one is raising the mast? The boom and pin separate from the mast when it is close to full...

I have a section of chain that I attach to the end of the halyard which works well. The way that the boom separates from the mast at the end and that you can't lower it with it staying is a problem for me too. Hard to lower it single handedly.

Help, C-26 can't drop rudder post, what am I doing wrong?

Hi, I have a new-to-me 1979 C-26. I have removed all the parts that I know of from the top of the rudder post as well as the rudder itself from the bottom. I can't figure out how to get the post to release down. I am wondering if I am missing some step. I put PB Blaster on the metal, and tried to hi...

Hi Reality, I was wondering if in the situation you described if the trailer had a front wheel on it that did not rotate (thus it would be able to turn the front of the trailer sideways and the front of the trailer would not be dragging), and if the main tires were in sand or a firm surface like con...
