Capt. Scott: No pics yet but I'll get one up soon. It doesn't show well inside my shop. To me, the M-17 is not a remarkably lovely boat. Too short to be real graceful looking. There has to be a break point for how well lines can be drawn for beauty while leaving in the practical features that make a...

I thought it impossible...

I never thought it could happen - lightning striking twice in the same spot. Last year, some may remember my story of how I acquired my Chrysler 20. It was the result of a missed opportunity to land a Montgomery 17. The C-20 was on C-List, then disappeared, then I went for the Monty, but it sold bef...

I got into the habit of manually turning the motor over a few times during storage to keep the fins on the impeller from developing a curvature memory against the impeller housing. It's an old habit and might not be valid with today's newer materials, but I still do it.

Yup, air movement is the most important to keep down mildew. It likes static atmosphere and a temp between 38 and about 50 degrees best. My shop is insulated but not heated unless I fire up my old Coleman catalytic heater. With the 12 foot ceiling I have to run a fan on low to get the heat down wher...

All Tucked In...

Chance is all tucked in for the winter. Now that she's in the shop, let the projects begin...

Just wondering what measures the rest of you are taking in the face of this unseasonably early arctic blast. Here, it only dropped to the high 20's, and rarely gets colder than that.

Good. No concussions, no bent aft rails. That rotational thing is cancelled by the bridles that hold the boom to center as the whole assembly tilts and the boom comes upright. It might good idea to not get used to doing this alot without them. The extra movement may be a wear factor at the step. Bri...

1) At least attach something to keep the ginpole upright as the mast starts to go back.

2) pre-select an escape route.

Outbacker - now THAT is funny ! Iron Mike, no idea, thought maybe a part number to tell them apart from the C22 lararette cover, but probably not. No markings on my fuel locker hatch. Might have to go back and check the records, but I'll wager and say it was some employees prediction of the cross-state rivalry of that years' Aggies-n-'Horns game. My summation makes perfect sense: The boats were built in Texas, and, as my neighbor from Tennessee informed me long ago, "the onl...

Sugary liquid won't spoil like the ham...and many people who have been stung in the lip will attest to how they like soda and beer cans. Re: C22 outboard

I read somewhere that the rule of thumb is 2hp per 1000# displacement or therabouts. The Pearson23 in the adjoining slip uses a 6hp Evinrude 2-stroke with no problem. My Yamaha weighs in at 85 lbs, and a full 6-gallon fuel tank is about 35 more. If the lighter motor and removing the galley unit doe...

The only issue with the drain holes (scuppers) being wet is that you might have a little water in cockpit when at rest. The holes in the transom are a bit lower than the ones on the inside. Usually, the water will run out when under way.

Like Windnutlarry says, 9.9 gets into the heavy range. If I recall correctly, my Tohatsu Sail-Pro weighed only 37lbs. It was , in 2010, the world's lightest 4-stroke. I really miss that motor. I could easily lift it off the mount and sling it over my shoulder each time I got home from the ramp. With...

It's best to lift the prop while sailing. I will often leave the motor down while I'm sailing down the river to the bay, about 3/4 mile, just because of the traffic. But I raise it as soon as I clear the marker. With the Garelick, you can easily lift the entire motor out and then tilt it nearly hori...

My past C-22 had a Tohatsu 6hp Sail-Pro. My current C-20 has an 8hp Evinrude Yacht-Twin. Both have the extra long 25inch shaft for sailboats. For most sailboat applications of 20 feet to, say, 26feet, with boats that have no inboard engine, a 25 inch shaft is preferable. The 6hp was plenty of motor,...

Had I known any of these remedies, I would have saved myself the grapefruit on my forehead. The loud "BINK" was audible for miles. The one about the 2-liter bottle would be entertaining because of the visual, but I fear not in my case. When I declared victory the next day, I opened the 16 ...
