Re: stove replacement in my C26
Thanks Dan. I"ll have to investigate filling connectors/hoses for the Bahamas. I tried the Kenyon pressurized alcohol stove once, and it's the closest I've ever come to burning up a boat. While trying to get it running, the flame got higher and higher and wouldn't shut off. I tried extinguishin...

stove replacement in my C26
I'm getting ready to replace the original Kenyon pressurized alcohol stove in my C26. I'm considering either a 2-burner gimballed Origo non-pressurized alcohol stove, or a 2-burner gimballed ENO propane stove. I have an Origo alcohol stove in my Columbia 36, and it has worked well, but the fumes are...

insurance in the Bahamas
I'm planning to sail my C26 (Nansen) from Florida to the Bahamas in February, then spend 4-5 weeks exploring over there. Does anyone have recommendations for insurance? I just started looking into this. My agent sent me some info saying that my present insurance company (Progressive) offers a Bahama...

Door County, Wisconsin, Lake Michigan
How did your trip to Door County go? I'm planning to take my C-26 up there in early October for a 4-day trip with some friends. Then I'm thinking about leaving the boat out there for a week, and coming back for another short (2-3 day) trip with my wife. I was thinking about launching at Ephraim or s...

mounting details for chain plate covers
Does anyone have a photo or sketch showing how the padded covers are mounted over the chain plate screws in the cabin? When I bought my C-26 last summer, the previous owner had just had these padded covers recovered in new fabric, but they hadn't been re-mounted in the boat. It looks like I could dr...

material and repairs for C-26 rudder cheek plates
Does anyone know what grade of stainless steel is used for the cheek plates on a C-26? Does anyone have any photos or sketches showing repairs done on their cracked cheek plates. Or even better, can you also report on how well the repairs have held up since then? I need to repair mine. Thanks, Craig

Chrysler 26 boat and trailer weight
I've searched several posts by keyword and haven't found the answer. What does a Chrysler 26 weigh? What does the matching EZ Loader trailer weigh? I know that the published displacement for the C-26 is 5000 lb. But I don't know if this is a minimum or a maximum, or if it includes all the people, ca...

Richard, Nice work on the trailer keel support. You mentioned doing some more work on guides to motivate the swing keel to line up in the right position. Did you ever implement these guides? Do you have pictures and/or drawings? The PO of my boat had some supports for the fixed part of the keel, but...

roller for improved function of rudder downhaul line
I couldn't find any plastic sleeves or rollers the right size. So I ended up making a roller out of wood. I used lignum vitae, because it is very dense and oily. Got a small piece for a few dollars from the local Woodcraft woodworking store. Cut a plug (roller) out of the wood using a hole saw. Cut ...

Glad you enjoyed it. Yes. We launched at Little Sand Bay without a tongue extension, and it was actually pretty easy. The Suburban was in the water as far as we wanted to back it, though. I have an EZ Roller trailer. Is that what you have? It would have been more difficult with a bunk-style trailer....

Thanks for the quick detailed reply. I'm really surprised there were no drain holes originally from the cabin sole to the bilge. That tells me the original setup must have been completely effective at keeping water from spurting out of the tube that the keel cable runs through. Do you know how large...

Glad you enjoyed it. The camera setup for the last two videos was very simple. I used an Olympus Stylus Tough waterproof camera, though it was away from the water and could have been any small, light digital camera. I mounted it on a small plastic table-top tripod (REI Ultrapod II). I folded in the ...

drain holes to bilge in C-26?
Does anyone have any drawings or sketches or photos showing the locations of drain holes to the bilge in a C-26? During a recent 4-day trip in the Apostle Islands, we were taking on at least 2-3 gallons of water every day. I believe most, if not all, of this water was coming from the top of the tube...

placement of bow chocks on C-26
My 1977 C-26 has no bow chocks. I purchased a pair to install, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the best placement to avoid conflicts with toe rail, jib furler, forestay, and corner of the deck. Does anyone have pictures of bow chocks on their C-26?
Thanks,
Craig

rudder won't go down
I had the same problem yesterday after re-installing the original kick-up rudder on my C-26. It wouldn't go down when pulling on the "down" line. I could force it down with a boat hook, and then cleat it (with the clam cleat I installed on the tiller). The bolt isn't too tight through the ...

reconnecting head in my C-26--seeking advice
I would like to reconnect the head in my C-26. I assume it's original equipment (Headmate, by Wilcox Crittenden), but don't know for sure. The previous owner removed all the hoses, but left the black Nauta holding bladder in the boat. He wrote down the dimensions of the outlet hose, pumpout hose, an...

reverse lock on Chrysler outboard
Does anyone have a picture of the spring, link, and spacer used for the reverse lock on the Chrysler Sailor 10 HP? My reverse lock isn't working, so when I put it in reverse, the motor kicks up out of the water. I think all the parts except possibly the spacer are intact and in place, but either the...

support beam for C-26 keel on EZ Loader trailer
I bought a C-26 in July and the trailer had been modified to add a couple of treated 6x6 beams to support the fixed part of the keel. The beam on the starboard side was screwed to the trailer when I bought it, and the starboard side of the fixed part of the keel rested on it. The one on the port sid...

Does anyone have a list of the original fuse values and circuit assignments in a 1977 C-26? The fuses on the panel under the sink are labeled (left to right) NAV LIGHTS, INT LIGHTS, ACC, ACC, ACC. I bought the boat in July and I'm just getting around to fixing some electrical problems. The fuse on t...

Thanks! The pictures and sketch are very helpful. I don't think I have any significant water in the bilge, because when I turned on the bilge pump and could hear it running, nothing came out. Thanks for the advice. I bought the C26 this afternoon, and it's sitting in my driveway in Bloomington, MN, now. Wish I had a couple more days left in the weekend to get it into the water. Seems to be in very nice shape given the age. The previous owners took good care of it. I've been up on Lake Su...

What to look for when buying a C26?
I'm looking at a C26 Sunday that I'm thinking about buying. Does anyone have any specific suggestions on what to look for or look out for? It's a 1977 model. Sorry if this question has already been posted before. I don't see a way to search for text in old postings.
Thanks,
Craig
