I was thinking of doing this very same thing for both my genoa and jib. Partly because the view would be better- and safer. Seems like a simple fix, and worth the pocket change for the change.

White knuckles barely describes the sail on Saturday. I woke up on Sunday and had sore everything from getting knocked around, tight shoulders from pulling line, rope burns on my palms, and a hell of a sunburn to boot.

Water is definitely seeping in and through the cracks. The cracks seem like the main cause of my leaking below decks.

Do you think its too late for the putty?

Thanks for that tip. It sounds like a lot of work, but I think there are so many little alligator cracks on the deck, that this is looking like the best option.
