Dang that Vang!
Chris, I saw a C-22 that had a boom-vang, and it made me wonder if my boat was missing something, because I'm exactly where you're at: a ring at the bottom of the mast... Another "tell" is to look at the bottom-side of your boom. Mine is clean, but the C-22 with the boom-vang had attachmen...

Felix, Do NOT be discouraged, but measure what you really want out of your boat. If you want it to be super-spiffy, then the long-haul route is the way to go {if you use the fiberglass method I described, keep in mind, that cutting the top out will damage the structural integrity of the boat... you ...

.... and by the way, I saw that you have the original fiddle-block: my bearings were woefully corroded (the bearings were no longer round at all)// (and mine was beginning to get stuck - REALLY NOT GOOD IN A BLOW!). So I did the right thing, and bought a new one. Here's the cool part: instead of Har...

Felix, Whew! That sir is a heady topic, and you're in for a treat! I bought my son a 1984 18' Hobie Catamaran, and delamination IS the conversation. It turns out that the top decks of the Catamaran are what give (a pontoons) structural rigidity. When they delaminate, then it is completely possible t...

Well! I too admit to a learning curve from this post... I watched a Catalina 22 raise their mast on the water in a Youtube video (mouth agape!). A good job was done, and I could certainly see the utility in that method now. I also noted he pushed that mast up with one hand... THAT ain't happenin' wi...

Wow! From my experience, hoisting a C22 mast while in the water seems quite dangerous! Is this a law/ ordinance, or lake regulation? I don't even see how you can do it, honestly. First, someone must raise the far end of the mast to hook it into the mast step finger. Unless you have it hinged? Whenev...

Back stay adjuster: First, think of your sailboat as a kite, instead of just a boat... There are a million alternatives to adjusting your kite string, and that's half the (challenging) fun of it! Check out other boats online! What about making your own slack adjuster, where you run the single-line b...

Side-stay help
!!! All advice welcome !!! My C-22 has... well, "not tight" side-stays. They're not completely loose mind you, but they should likely be a little tighter than they are. Here's the problem: the owner before me buggered up and bent the adjustable clasps that tie the stays to the deck of the ...

New kids on the block
hey all ! So, "the next generation" has arrived, and my own kids are among them. Seems like parents are always toughest on their own kids, and I'm no different... my kids haven't been sucking up the real-world lessons I've been trying to teach them: lazy, over-confident, and simply not pay...

Hey all, My C22 sail compliment is a new Main, and a new 110% Jib. By and large, they're great stuff (Yay Sail Warehouse!). I asked a poll question a couple of posts back, but no one really replied. The 110% Jib {hanked-on}/ no roller-furler on my boat, has nearly gotten me in trouble a few times a...

Mud sucking bottom dweller
    I feel for ya ! don't go breaking your swing-keel cable or anything.... you're simply dealing with the suction from the mud around the keel, and that turns into many hundreds of pounds of glue-like adhering forces. For some reason this reminds me of a story I read about a guy...

C22 mainsail backhaul
Hey! I've been searching all sort of images on Google, and through the Chrysler Sailboat specs./ rigging data {stumped}, but I'm still trying to figure out what the original running rigging configuration is supposed to be on my C22, where Mainsail backhaul is concerned. Port side of boom, closest to...

Hey! I use a trolling motor hooked to three marine batteries. It moves the boat out of the lake marina well, though I don't trust it to keep me out of real trouble... That's what real sailing is for ;o) (plus these are pretty safe sailboats). Zero money for Gas!! Straight-up green. In other words, p...

A small clarification: *nothing helps truly {utterly rotted} wood - it's gotta go. But... if it has a chance before the rot decimates it: Saturate in Antifreeze, and that should help dry out the wood. GitRot won't work on water saturated wood, so using the antifreeze to kill the rot and dry out the ...

Hey there! Yes it's bad, but the only way I'd become scared is if the swing keel started banging away in a bad set of hobby horsing waves... In that situation, the whole thing could destabilize. Otherwise it shouldn't simply collapse. Make sure you sail with another boat... Someone would be there fo...

Hey!
What JIB do you sail YOUR Chrysler 22 with, and what wind conditions would make you pull it down for something smaller, or reef the main?
90% Jib ?
100% Jib?
110% Jib?
130% Jib?
150% Jib?
Thanx!

Thundergod (and Mrs. Thunderness-ess) Trailer: Once you deal with the keel-pin brackets (and this is no small chore, but quite necessary), you can fairly quickly sand and paint the bottom, and I would then encourage you to find a slip, or mooring somewhere. I tried valiantly to trailer my Chry...

West coast strut
!
I've been hearing about the disaster that is the west coast... Cali drought, Alaskan fires, and now an algae plume that is costing the Washington and Oregon fishing industries 9 million a month in lost commerce...
Did you see any algae/ big changes on your trip?
Thanks,
Bill
