good day to sail but the boat??

I went to scout camp this week and got to sail a 27' lancer. I found the lancer to be a tub. we lost rudder authority at 30 degrees list. the cabin was poorly laid out. it is a good boat to teach in but i would not own one.

I read some were that you need one lbs of thrust for every 65 lbs of boat.
a C26 is 5000 lbs. so for a C26 you would need 76 lbs of thrust.
two 45 lbs trust trolling motors should do the trick with power to spare.

Mast hing Question

I have installed a mast hing on to my C26. and i am getting ready to raise the mast for the first time.
Is the harness for raising the mast necessary if you have a mast hing?

I have so much to learn yet
I have three jibs------at least i think they are jibs that the bag has them labeled as 80% to 110%
the 80% sail is much thicker so i think it is for stronger winds.
in what conditions are they to be uses for?

I bought my C26 last fall. the lake is finally getting full enough to launch the boat. so we pulled out the sales for the first time to make sure they are in good shape. I think he is describing the insert in to the mast not the mast step. my mast plate was screwed on too. one screw was loose so i put a dab lock tight thread restorer on it and held with no problems. It could be a bear to get off the nest time.

With out the collar on the mast step I think it would put a great deal of stress on the mast step. With the collar around the mast step and the added strength of the fiber glassing to fill up the gap. Plus the hinge is resting on the collar supporting the weight of the mast while raisin I am not too...

I dont understand your question. did you look at all the photos? I think you will see we have changed nothing. the hinge is only to keep the mast from twisting as it is rased. one thing we did change is the looks.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one that is new to sailing. Last summer I had 4 days of sailing instruction. I feel I now know enough to be down right dangerous on the water. I have never thought about using an electric wench. You may have a size problem, what would you do if you had no power or it broke down? Could you hand crank it if you need to? It would be nice to get rid of the handle in the cabin the control could be in the cockpit. I like the idea.
