It gets worse. I finally got everything off the keel, several pounds worth, then started stripping the delaminating fiberglas sheets off, because I realized they were put on OVER some of the original gelcoat, and therefore not part of the original shape of the boat. There were several inches of extr...

Thanks for your posts. When you tow the dinghy, what do you do with the dinghy motor? Does it come aboard the sailboat for the passage? Thinking this through, I would guess so, in case you lost the dinghy... Our dinghy is about 110lbs. I guess in a pinch we could lift it aboard the C26 and put it ab...

What kind of dinghy arrangement for longer trips?
What kind of dinghy do you use for longer trips? Do you tow your dinghy? I have been reading on different forums that towing is not advised. Yet some cruisers say that's what they do. Is this feasible, say for example, for a trip to the Bahamas from the Keys? I don't think a dinghy would fit on the ...

Thanks for the pix, that last picture of the finished berth does not look like mine at all. What is that vertical formica piece with the notch in it? I think I have one of those flying around the boat painted white, but I didn't know it belonged anywhere. We have three boards that go all the way to ...

Pictures of the C26 Vberth construction?
The C26 we acquired a few years back is a work in progress. I've realized recently that the Vberth is probably not configured the way it should be. The widest part consists of plywood sheets that are resting on narrow ledges and brackets on the bulkhead with no support otherwise underneath. Whenever...

How do you mount the Garelick mount? I looked at one and it's got a lot of screw holes, what does that attach to if I mount it to the side of the original mount on the boat? There's no support structure, the transom is just a thin layer of fiberglass, isn't it? How is that going to support a 90 lb o...

c-26 outboard questions - what to do with the throttle.
I've posted before, but it's been a while. The boat we acquired a few years ago is still on the hard. I got rid of the 9.9hp Honda, I had no way of fixing it, no facilities, knowledge, etc. I'm really fretting about what motor to put on this boat. I want to use the original motor mount. Someone had ...

C-26 fixed keel 1978. Apparently most people have the swing keel, but the rudder is the same. The rudder can be moved up or down with a rope. It's made of white plastic, and the area where it pivots up and down is made of what appears to be aluminum. The plastic on the rudder is a very white matte d...

How do I know what's missing from my rudder?
My rudder was kind of wiggly and didn't clear the hull at the leading edge of the plastic part. My friend took the whole thing out. Now, when he puts it back it looks like something was missing. I don't know what to call any of the pieces. How do I begin to ask questions about it, and how do I know ...

c-26 fixed keel refinishing question
We are re-doing the hull and keel on our boat. The lower half of the keel, is covered with fiberglass, and then bondo on the outside, with several layers of paint on top of that. The bondo is a porous pink substance and absorbs water out of the air. Do I need to strip the entire keel? I've opened a ...

Have a helper hold the screws in place, then tighten the nuts on them from the inside. Many thanks! But there are no nuts on the inside. Not anywhere. Well, maybe for the plate that holds the shrouds, but that's the only place I've see any kind of hole that goes all the way through the deck. I noti...

At this point, I am afraid of creating new leaks. There are leaks that seem to come out of nowhere in the cabin. The place where the water exits is nowhere near any hardware on the deck, so I'm stumped. I don't want to create more problems. The leaks I have leak a yellowish water which I fear is not...

Replacing the stanchions on the C-26?
When we got our boat last year, every single one of the stanchions, save one, was broken (corroded away) at the top. I was wondering if there's a cheap way to replace these without unscrewing them from the deck. Do the stems come out of the base?

Thanks for the help. Does anyone have a photo of the original cabin cushion configuration? How were the cushions on the seat backs attached? How many cushions are in the V-berth? How many in the main salon?
