How bout a nice oil lamp to set the mood? But seriously, I'm not totally sure of the answer because I do absolutely no night sailing, or boating for that matter, but based on taking a boater's safety class many moons ago I think the answer is... White mast light viewable from all directions wi...

Looks like fun. I need to get a waterproof case for my camera so I can take some footage underway. Is it typical to tether the dingy that far back from the boat? I've never sailed a sailboat large enough that it needed a dinghy, so I'm just curious and wondered if it ever interferes with coming abou...

My username is different than my boat name in case I were to get another boat. My username, Leeway, is a play on words for my first name and the boating term. I figure I'm always in the right because it's always my way! :D My boat name, Sea'Chele (like Seashell), is name after my wife, Michele (Chel...

My best guess is that the boat was overloaded. Combine that with trying to go really fast and you get a lot of torque on the mast right in the middle of the top section. The boat is really only designed for 2 adults or up to 450lbs total, so if you had more than that you probably had too much drag. ...

I was kicking myself for not having my boat seaworthy enough to sail this weekend.

Had monster winds in northern Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday.

The only bright spot was that on Monday when I got back home the fiddle block I ordered with on my porch. :D

Thanks a lot Leeway. This answer my questions. I will try some stuff next times I got a chance and i'll take some picture if I still got problem. My boat seem to be original with no modification. But I don't remember seeing any 2-piece clip. In order to raise the rudder I have to raise the tiller(1...

jtrembaly30, Welcome aboard! As EE has posted, check the manual first, it has a good diagram on how to rig the main sheet to the boom, provided you have the original setup. These boats have been around for a while, so some owners have modified when repairing. It also describes the process for securi...

Lee, What parts are you missing? I'm missing the main sail fiddle block that attaches to the trunk. I just have a single block with a swivel cam cleat. The previous owner rigged it up a bit differently. I'm restoring it to as close to original as I can, so the old setup will not work now. Especiall...

I envy you Isaac. I wish I had more time to get my boat fixed before this weekend so I can get my niece and sister-in-law out. They are coming up from Florida for a week. Unfortunately, it is not looking good. Mainly, because one of the parts I need is back ordered. I wonder how fast you could have ...

Isaac,

Sorry, I didn't get to the point in my repairs that I was able to pull the mast and sail out to take pictures of the rigging. I'm going to try to get to it this week, but it won't be until Wednesday at the earliest.

That humming you feel and hear is coming from vibration of the center board. You know you are going pretty good when it starts a hummin'!

The wood trim piece from the trunk is definitely not original, but looks nice and should work just fine. The glassed wood around the trunk lip appears OK. Is it solid? I think the centerboard is original, but not sure without dimensions (thickness). Is the center board tight as soon as you put it in...

Btw, the battens should be flat. I will have to measure mine and reply back. The originals were wood battens. The previous owner who bought the boat to fixup and sell could not find the battens. He made some out of sheets of fiberglass and the work real well. I later found all three battens inside t...

I think I get it. I'll have to look when I get home. I have a spring clip up at the luff but I wasn't sure if the boom clipped on there how the sail could be furled. I guess that is where my confusion is. If the luff is clipped can you furl the sail and if so what holds the boom gooseneck up. Thank...

OK, I get what you are talking about now. My main and boom have had some alterations from original, so it's a little different than yours might be. I'll have to look it over at home to refresh my memory on how it would be rigged if it were original. However, the 24" line should be tied around t...

One more thing, the centerboard is really really tight to drop down while the boat is on the trailer. Is that normal? It should not be really tight. Are you sure it's not rubbing on the trailer? From the picture you posted previously it looks like one of the former owners changed the center board s...

Depends on the season.

Winter, I check occasionally and participate even less.

In Summer I check often, even multiple times a day to at least read whats going on and I almost always reply to a new Man-o-war thread.

Isaac, I agree with Islandhopper in regards to the hatch and separating the hull. Not a good idea in either case. Check back on some earlier Manowar posts and you will see a picture of the new round ports I put in mine. It should give you a good idea of where to put them. Also, I fortified the secti...

AFAIK the deck cannot be easily separated from the hull. I believe the two are joined with epoxy and then the rub rail is crimped on. Not sure how you would get them apart without causing a lot of work for yourself. Depending on where the repair is needed, it might be a better option to cut access h...

Sea'chele is named for my wife Michele and, oddly enough, the sea (despite that I only sail inland freshwater lakes). The really odd thing is that I found out later that the previous owner, who had not sailed her, was going to name her "Seashell" after his girlfriend Michelle, whom he call...

As I drove past the nearby lake this morning I wished I had not started repairing my boat. With the speed boats, PWCs, and skiiers off the lake I'd have it all to myself.

Just cut off the trunk cap and support members Sunday night to start repairs.

There's a time for fishing and a time for sailing.

If you are out for fishing I would just use one of your sails and don't be in a hurry to get out and back. Maybe just use your motor with the sails down.

If you are out for sailing, then leave your fishing equipment and motor behind and have fun!
