Wire terminals

Does anyone know are there any differences in wire terminals? Harbor freight has kits that have a Tom N of terminal for not a lot of money, on the other hand west marine has individually packaged terminals that add up to a lot more... So in reality what are the differences? Are there any or is it al...

What do you guys think of using butyl rubber for sealing either the frame, replacing the gasket material, or both? I'm in favor of it, however I have no experience with it yet, just based upon some research that I did on the web :D Check out the link below http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/nfm_por...

Alan just a quick thought, i commend you for diving in on this project, it's one that i need to do but i don't feel comfortable doing it just now. If you reseal with 5200 and the leak is coming from the old gasket holding in the plex can you remove the frame again? Or do you have to? Can the plex be...

After further research I found this thread...

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f14 ... 15835.html

I'm going to use tinned wire, I found a source for mast cable that is not any more expensive than other wire I have seen. (ok maybe a few bucks but the cost is negligible)

Am I missing something here? Everything I have preveously seen talks about making sure you use marine stranded, tinned wire? Is the 16-4SJ cable tinned? If not what is the drawback?

Wiring

Just a quick question to everyone who has rewired their masts, did you use single wires and just grouped/taped them together or did you use mast cable where all 4 or 5 wires are grouped together in one cable ? is there an advantage or disadvantage to either of these? I need to buy wire and am leanin...

Looks like there are a lot of us that are upgrading their masts and wiring this year. I am installing an antennae for the VHF radio also. So I got to thinking about lightning... We have some wicked "indian summer" storms and since I'm the token sailboat in the marina, I think all my fellow...

Beg to differ, Marineer! :( Unless I'm all bassackwards, my understanding is the red/green at the top of the mast is an option to the normal bow lights. Either is appropriate/legal. Many folks here prefer the normal boat lights vice the mast top due to their visibility in close quarters. That is, m...

Thanks

Don't forget if you plan to sail at night you will need a red/green at the top of the mast.

Something makes me think that the "OEM" steaming lights if there was such a thing were dealer installed as they appear to be installed in different locations on everyone's mast. My light is a few inches from the top of the mast. If I install in that location, I fear that the deck light wil...

To run my wires I just tipped the mast against the house so it had a good angle and used a couple fishing weights on a string lowered down from the masthead. I could easily fish them out the opening at the bottom of the mast and then used the string to pull the wires. It's not like you will be pull...

The OEM upgrade path has me laughing, I'm doing the same mast wiring right now also (however Alan has got me beat, i just don't seem to find enough time) I even went so far as getting a new "old stock" steaming/deck light combo because I couldn't find one that I thought "looked right&...

Alan, To take this one step further, what did you do for the steaming/deck light ? I'm not finding any that I like and that don't look like crap or cost an arm and a leg. I'm thinking of buying parts and making my own. (I dont like the "plastic wrap around approach that the few manufacturers th...

Alan, I was "blown" away at some of the responses that I got, I guess some companies can be selective about their clientele and if your not ordering a new 50 foot mast and rigging.... well you know. Any way I'm please at what I received.
