Really do need the manual
I'm pretty sure the Sailmasters did provide charging, but that the rating varied across models and over the years. Somewhere 6 - 10 amps is probable -- I'd bet closer to 6 -- but the manual, a cagey internet search or a quick call to a competent dealer should give the actual value. You could also ho...

I made up some jumpers
for our trip to Pamlico Sound, but added copper bar to the end to increase conductivity. Having those large aluminum chainplate braces across from each other in the cabin seemed like a cross-cabin bolt waiting to happen. Purchased the best 4 gauge cables that WallyWorld had to offer and some 1/4&quo...

Sunbrella upholstery
I did use Sunbrella on the salon cushions, and it's been a good decision for me. They aren't perfect, but my goals were decent looking, serviceable and completed, and those were met. After a couple of years and more than 200 days sailing, they still look about like they did when new. I cut new open ...

I've considered both pivoting ladder and athwartships berth
On Windward, the ladder does contribute some bracing to the cockpit sole, so in my case any sort of pivot would still need to provide some structural support. I slept athwartships for a while, but couldn't get used to the lack of should, hip and knee room when I'd roll over. I've ended up using the ...

BEAUTIFUL JOB!
Guillaume, Very, very nice work! Are you putting the water tank in the locker below? I'm hoping to do some revisions to the ChryslerSailingAssociation web site in the next month... the content's stale, and there's a lot going on in the C26 and C22 community. Would you object to me posting your pics ...

By the way,
Ron, was it you who was interested in my old Edson pedestal? Really interested or just passingly curious? Keep thinking I'll either clean it up and e-bay it, but seems like always more pressing things to be done.

I didn't set out to be an example in how not to do things :( , but I'm glad you've found the info useful. Wee teenie holes...
do need to be addressed. I'm betting you took a good sharp knife and did a little probing in a few of the holes to ensure they aren't just a portal to some delamination below. Are they big enough that they need to be filled? How many and how widespread? You didn't ask advice, but un the absence of m...

You know, if you have free time and gluttony for punishment
you could come help work on Windward. Or on the house! I'm still thinking of going the other direction and either getting a second C26 for the coast, or maybe waiting and putting a larger, non-project boat there (if such a thing exists. I think they keep them near the unicorns) Fair Winds, Jeff

Newer F-150 works well for the 8000# or so load.
I'll bet the all-up weight is close to 8000 lbs. Figure 5000 for boat, about 1600-1800 for trailer and at least 1000 pounds of motor, sails, ground tackle, food, fuel, clothing, dinghy, books, etc. I'm adding about 5% to get to the 8000# figure, but when was the last time anything to do with a boat ...

Hi Gus, Sorry to be AWOL (or more properly, Absent Without Functional Boat) for so long. I completely forgot that you wanted to get a look below... next time remind me. Despite the roughness of the seas -- there were several ripples, as I recall -- we could have rafted up on the way back to Beaufort...

Where it's at...
Originally I had my house (GP27) and dedicated starting (Optima RedTop) batteries at the forward end of the aft bilge, where they fit just fine and were centered and low, but I decided I wanted to put a flexible water tank there to increase capacity (which I did). I (over)built a battery locker in t...

I've been wanting an anchor roller too
but haven't wanted to remove my chocks, combo light and forestay to work one in. One idea I had was to remove the aluminum cap trim that covers the hull/deck joint from the end of the rub strip to the bow (you may want to reinforce the joint there anyway, since the early models don't have a headstay...

How about some interior & cockpit pics?
Yes, Texas Marine Internationla used the Chrysler 26 mold for the TMI 26. The boat should be similar to the 1979/1980 models with the conventional foredeck and anchor locker. I saw an interior layout sketch recently that coincided with some of my "dream C26" ideas: 1) galley goes starboard...

Smith Creek looks good
Clair, Spoke with the NCDNR guy and he confirmed that Smith Creek is open, legal and reasonably secure. Looks like a good launch. My fall back may be heading to Paradise Cove, near Whortonsville, which a friend of mine owns. Water may be a little skinny there for me, and thus will initially try an e...

Hi Gus, Probably arrive 5th or 6th, launch/rig/obsessively tune on 6th, light out with my family on the 7th. Ocracoke is pretty certain unless the wx is foul. We're tentatively planning to go to Cape Lookout as well, but will depend on weather (the inlet scared both my wife and son before) and sched...

October launch & parking options in Oriental, Bath or ??
All, Last couple of summers we chartered on Pamlico Sound and had a blast. Unless Murphy signs on as crew (or I don't finish installing bilge pumps or larger water, fuel and head capacity), my wife, son and I are planning to haul Windward to the sound for a week in October, and I'd like to line up l...

Monte, back to your actual question...
You mention local and near-off shore sailing. Where do you sail? What are the winds like? Do you go out pretty much whenever you want, regardless of the breeze, or are you willing to sit it out when it's blowing hard or motor in really light air? Will you weekend (or longer) cruise enough that heavy...

Those prices are from several years ago.
I ended up working with Bill James at AirForce Sails to get a new working canvas. When AirForce went BOOM in the Sailnet blowup several years back, Bill formed a new company, FXSails, and he's continued to be my supplier of choice. Prices were competitive with or lower than Cruising Direct, and the ...

Hello KGeist, There's a registry on the Chrysler Sailing Association site at chryslersailing.lizards.net, which I host. Rik Sneeuwjagt was the originator of the site, but I took it over after he lost Child's Play (his C26) to a hurricane and became even busier than he was with non-sailing pastimes. ...

I used PVC and epoxy
The Chrysler 26's hull is not cored, so no worries there. I have a Humminbird Piranha Max 15 with a transducer that was designed for transom mount, and used epoxy and PVC pipe to install it beneath the port settee, just aft of the head. No holes in the hull, and works perfectly. I began by testing t...

Windward had a wheel when I bought her....
but removed it in favor of a tiller and would never go back on the C-26. The tiller is more responsive, positive and gives a much better sense of the boat's balance. I never wonder which way the rudder's pointing. Tiller is cheap, simple, reliable and easy to maintain. The tiller is much more conven...

Water leaking in around the keel
Beau's right: start by checking the swing keel pendant's through hull and hose. The keel pin on the 26 is outside the boat, although Jim Craighead (?) found that the bolts that hold the swing keel shoe to the hull were leaking on his boat. If you see water seeping around the aft portion of the keel ...

Just saw this one on e-bay. I have no knowledge of the boat, but looks like it at least floats, and does include a trailer. Besides, it's red, just like it's supposed to be. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AMT%3A12&viewitem=&item=160123...

Odd sizes
Don't know about the C-22, but the C-26 has really odd sized portlights that are hard to replace. The options I came up with were the obvious ones: => replace the lexan in the current frames => cut oversized lexan to cover the old hole plus a border, optionally installing small opening ports through...

Problem is, it's always something, no matter what you've fixed or upgraded. 2nd bulkhead to starboard
The plus to the stock config is that it gives the visual illusion of a longer salon, plus adds a bit of elbow room if you're actually trying to feed five people at the table. I'd sketched out a starboard bulkhead, and actually mocked one up with foam core, but I was afraid once I was done it would m...
