Don't know that particular machine, but I have an old Singer Featherweight 221 from the 30s or 40s that's a real workhorse. No zig-zag, but small, strong, nicely packaged in its own hard case -- it's what I'd take if I went for a serious cruise. Of course, I'd love to have a heavy duty SailRite mach...

On Windward I use a Davis anchor light. ttp://www.davisnet.com/marine/products/marine_product.asp?pnum=03310 (you can find it cheaper elsewhere). Not LED, but the std .1 amp bulb is allegedly visible for 2 nm, and has a sensor so that it only comes out at night. An LED retrofit, which I've not tried...

Actually three other C26s at our dock: Rimshot is a 1980(?), Shanty II is a 78 (Windward's sail number is 481, while hers is 480! Bizarre coincidence), plus another 1980 C26 (don't recall if it's even named... how embarrassing). We have a couple of C22s as well. Elsewhere on the lake, there are at l...

'Ere, 'e says 'e's not dead!
Reports of the Chrysler Sailing Association 's content demise are greatly exaggerated... When the original site went south, I tracked down Rik and eventually convinced him to let me have the content. I then spent some time fixing dead links and other funk to get it ported (couldn't do anything about...

Loose is lovely. Replaced my original main in very early 2003 with a loose-footed main, two full upper battens, two reef points, from AirForce Sails back when Bill James was still there. I've since added a third set of reef points, and it's still going strong with more than 400 trips on it. When Sai...

You shouldn't have much trouble with top speed in calmish conditions... might not hit hull speed, but should be pretty close. As several have pointed out, the bigger concern is always bucking high wind, strong current, big waves or wakes, or stopping before you piton the dock. If power's not what yo...

Windward leaked along the screw holes, some of which were stripped. I began by overdrilling some -- core was dry, although I cannot fathom how or why -- and filled with plain, then thickened epoxy. Took lots off epoxy to fill the cavities. The old rails were quite flimsy, and the hatch is huge. I wa...

Welcome aboard, and to the board. Chryslers are achieving cult classic status, due largely to the efforts of the folks you'll find here. Whether it's your first boat or simply your most recent, I hope you'll find her as satisfying as we all seem to find ours.

Oh, the turnbuckles
If the turnbuckles are properly antiseized or greased, I don't think repeated tensioning and loosening will hurt them any. Perhaps if you were doing so every day, but typically it's not necessary to turn them very hard to achieve adequate tension, and with proper lube they should last many years wit...

Don't think QRs are the thing
Been kinda busy -- work, family, boat work... you know the drill. Yup, on the 26 I just slack all shrouds and headstay, disconnect forward lowers and headstay and mast is good to come down. Not sure the quick discos save you much time when you already have to remove the boom and various bits of runn...

Kenyon
Pretty sure it was Kenyon. I searched around when I went through my masthead rebuild and spreader bracket replacement on my 26 and found a good listing of cross-sections at www.rigrite.com. The 26 seems to use the Kenyon 3049; not sure if the 22 uses the same model, having not inspected closely, but...

Be careful what you suggest!
KeysSkipper,
Careful what you suggest! The trip OBX left me way hungry for more, including the nagging notion that I need a second C26 someplace salty so don't need to trailer to get there. Never visited the keys, and by boat seems like the best way.

Nippy is relative.
When the temps are in the low 20s it's nippy in the mornings already! That's what decent sleeping bags are for 8) My wife's usually fine to overnight even when it's pretty cold. The deal we have is that I get up, get the heater started and get a pot of coffee going. Once it's warm enough the iced co...

Foam, carpet and plans
Since I sail year around and it gets kinda chilly here (lowest temp during an overnight was 10 deg F, and 20s are common for me) I attached blue backpacker's sleeping pads (Wally World's finest) with contact cement to insulate the hull sides (inside, although it would make for an interesting exterio...

Rode stowage
Yeah, I'm on the fence re: rode stowage as well. Usually I keep the main hook and its rode in the aft starboard settee locker, which works well at home since it's easier to anchor from the cockpit when singlehanded. On the coast I like to have the big Danforth up on the bow; I've been keeping the ro...

Ron, how's the anchor roller working out?
I want to put a roller on Windward and was thinking of the same approach that I see you've already used. My furler drum's quite close to the deck, though, and since I've experienced furler/anchor interference on charter boats before I was thinking of offsetting the roller instead. How's the roller w...

Battery location(s)
I used to have an Optima Red Top and a Group 27 beneath the aft berth, but wanted to add a second house battery and wanted to put a water tank there. Since Windward had a slight list to port (blame the head, galley, cooking gear and food) anyway and my water tank would add 180# or so, I wanted to ba...

That's fantastic! More thanks to you than I can convey. Drop me a note so I can get you $ for materials, shipping and the like. There's some roughness in the lower fiberglass cup that the bearing rides in, and I'll resurface that before reassembly. I always had a problem with the rudder collar slipp...

Handles great!
She did wonderfully in the chop... I think it's what she's designed for. Kind of like a skier in the moguls. While the hull shape and relatively narrow beam make her a bit tender initially, she thrives in the chop. Do need to reef early so she's sailing on her bottom rather than her beam ends, off c...

EE - how's the hanging locker working out?
Wondered how Emergency Exit's hanging locker is working out. I've been wanting to make a similar mod on Windward -- three people's worth of foulies makes the head just a little cramped :o -- but have worried that it would compromise the "illusion of space" that makes the 26 seem so much le...

Yup, mostly singlehanding
A friend sailed with me for a few days of fun stuff, but the last three days of high wind and steep chop was solo. The vast majority of my sailing is singlehand, and when my wife and son sail with me their role is often as intelligent ballast. The tillerpilot lost its mind, and I did miss that. Simp...

Yes, please!!
Wow! If the bearings turn out to be doable, I'll gladly pay you for a set. I can muddle through with the ones I have, and will do some epoxy work to smooth and strenghten the boat's female bearing surface, but would love to have a proper set to minimize the slop in the system.

C26 - Rudder bearings and swing keel shoes
If anyone has either of these made, or finds a source, please drop me a note. IdaSailor is apparently no longer making the bearings, and I have no other source for those. I have dimensions for the bearings, but no useful info at all for the keel shoes.
